National Adjunct Labor Action: Don't Whine! Organize!

Last February 25th, 2015, adjunct faculty  all over the country -- all over the world -- rallied with students and other supporters behind the idea that we deserve better than the scraps that #badmins and politicians have decided we are worth. We deserve more pay, heath insurance and retirement benefits, and a strong union that has our back.

NATIONAL ADJUNCT WALK OUT DAY ( #NAWD) SHOWED THE ENTIRE COUNTRY THAT WE MEAN FOR THINGS TO CHANGE.

But we need to keep the pressure on administrators, and keep this issue in the media and in the public eye.

The first Monday in September is set aside to celebrate Labor ... or at least that's the story everyone tells. It seems like the day is mostly a day for cook outs and for car sales and for teachers to catch their collective breathe until Thanksgiving break. We need to use this Labor to day to speak out about adjunct educators as Labor. We need to make it clear that our concerns:

  • a living wage
  • access to health
  • retirement benefits
  • job security
  • the right to unionize

-- ARE NOT PERKS WE ARE REQUESTING. THEY ARE RIGHTS WE ARE DEMANDING AND TAKING FOR OURSELVES.
